چکیده

Abstract. A total of 13 satellite missions have been launched since 1985, with different types radar altimeters on board. This study intends to make a comprehensive evaluation historic and currently operational altimetry for lake water level retrieval over the same set lakes develop strategy constructing consistent long-term records inland at global scale. The estimates produced by retracking algorithms (retrackers) were compared gauge measurements 12 in four countries. performance each retracker was assessed terms data missing rate, correlation coefficient r, bias, root mean square error (RMSE) between altimetry-derived concurrent measurements. results show that model-free retrackers (e.g., OCOG/Ice-1/Ice) outperform model-based most missions, particularly small lakes. Among Sentinel-3 gave best results, followed SARAL. ENVISAT has slightly better than Jason-1 Jason-2, but its rate is higher. For lakes, ERS-1 ERS-2 provided more accurate TOPEX/Poseidon mission. In contrast, large option due lower shorter repeat cycle. GeoSat Follow-On (GFO) both an extremely high estimates. Although several contemporary provide GFO, sole mission, 1985 1990, With full consideration duration, should be two-step bias correction normalization procedure. first step, use Jason-2 as initial reference estimate systematic biases TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1, Jason-3 then normalize them form TOPEX/Poseidon–Jason series. Then, series remove other construct ungauged

Accurate Linking of Lake Erie Water Level with Shoreline Datum Using GPS Buoy and Satellite Altimetry

There is a need to accurately link the water level to the shoreline vertical datum for various applications including coastal management, lake/river/estuary/wetland hydrological or storm surge modeling/forecasting. Coastal topography is historically surveyed and referenced to the predetermined vertical datum in terms of orthometric heights, or the heights above the geoid, which is poorly known ...

A multi-source satellite data approach for modelling Lake Turkana water level: calibration and validation using satellite altimetry data

Lake Turkana is one of the largest desert lakes in the world and is characterized by high degrees of interand intra-annual fluctuations. The hydrology and water balance of this lake have not been well understood due to its remote location and unavailability of reliable ground truth datasets. Managing surface water resources is a great challenge in areas where in-situ data are either limited or ...

A Preliminary Analysis of Lake Level and Water Storage Changes over Lakes Baikal and Balkhash from Satellite Altimetry and Gravimetry

Lakes Baikal and Balkhash are two of the world’s major lakes affecting fresh water supplies in their catchments. Measurements from satellite altimetry (TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1 and -2), satellite gravimetry (GRACE) and a hydrological model (LDAS) are used to see the relationship between lake level change (LLC) and water storage change in these two lakes. At Lake Baikal, the average rate of LLC i...

Surface water dynamics in the Amazon Basin: Application of satellite radar altimetry

[1] Satellite radar altimetry has the ability to monitor variations in surface water height (stage) for large wetlands, rivers, and associated floodplains. A clear advantage is the provision of data where traditional gauges are absent. As part of an international program, a complete altimetric analysis of the Amazon Basin is being undertaken. Here, an updated and more rigorous evaluation of the...
